About this list:

2004 Cornell University ratings of annuals grown at Bluegrass Lane in Ithaca, N.Y, grouped by genus, then sorted from highest to lowest overall season average. Each plant was rated by 4 people on overall impact of flowers, foliage, landscape value, and plot uniformity. Averages of all plant ratings on a 1-5 scale (1 = awful, 5 = great) are presented here as the “Season-long average”. The overall ranking of each plant (against a total of 211 plants) is also given.

Also listed is the number of votes awarded by the attendees at the field day on 28 July, 2004. Attendees voted in response to the question, “ In your opinion, which two plants have the greatest consumer appeal. That is, ”I could sell a lot of this stuff, and also make some money off it”. There were a total of 213 votes tallied. Some misidentified species have been deleted.
